Last Daisy of Summer

I had a little garden on my porch this year -

Tomatoes, Four-o'clock, Geraniums,

and Daisies.  LOTS of daisies!!

I think they are so cheery!

And it's quite surprising that any have lasted

until November -

but this one brave little soldier did!

Something worth celebrating!

Shabbat Shalom, chevarim!

The Shabbat candle is lit,

and the Kiddush and Hamotze is ready.

For me, it is the most precious part

of the Erev Shabbat home service.

Does it look familiar?

It is the bread and the wine

(or in my home, grape juice).

representing the precious sacrifice

that Yeshua made for our salvation

on the Cross!

Yes . . . it may surprise you to know . . . . .

that it is Communion!

Messianic Blessing over the bread-

"Blessed are You, Lord our G-d, King of the Universe,

Who brings forth the Living Bread from Heaven."

Messianic Blessing over the wine-

"Blessed are You, Lord our G-d, King of the Universe,

Giver of the True Fruit of the Vine - Yeshua, our Messiah."

Mommy's Little Helper . . . In The Kitchen!

Because I just couldn't POSSIBLY put

the groceries away without his help!

( He's the extra "sugar", you know!  ;)

Pumpa's Painting

In my kitchen hangs a very special painting.

Special to me, anyway.

Others might look at it and think,

"Oh, that's nothing much."

It's painted on cardboard,

not on a fancy canvas.

What makes it so special?

It was painted just for me -

by my grandpa!

We kids called him "Pumpa"

because my oldest cousin could not

for the life of him say "Grandpa"

when he was little - and it stuck!

And we all loved it!

And we loved him!

Years ago, I had this humble cardboard painting

professionally framed.  What??  you may ask?

Isn't that kind of expensive for such humble material?

I wasn't framing the cardboard,

I was protecting a little piece of my heart!

Red Box Recipes - Oopsies CAN Be Delicious!!

So if you're looking for the perfect

cooking post, ummm . . .

this isn't it.

Unless, you're looking for a surprise,

in which case, you've found it!

Now, you may be thinking

"this looks like granola" -

and, yes it does, but . . .

no, it isn't.

Or, "hmmm, this looks like

something whole grain", and

yes, it does, but

no, it isn't . . . not totally,

anyway!

This (drum roll, please)

is a cookie recipe gone

DELICIOUSLY WRONG!!!

Yep, you read that right - sooo wrong,

and yet so yummy that I

decided to blog about it anyway!

Because it really is worth trying!

I followed the directions exactly,

except I used real butter, not margarine.

What I actually ended up with was

chocolatey-peanut buttery-oatmeal goodness!!

This can be enjoyed as a breakfast cereal,

as a topping over, oh, pretty much anything

- OR -

just with a spoon right out of the pan!

(I speak from personal experience . . . trust me on this one!)

Here is the vintage recipe -

taken from the Salina Journal, Salina, KS

(not sure what year??  1950's or 60's probably)

Unbaked Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies

2 Cups sugar          3 Cups quick unrolled oats

1/3 Cup Cocoa          1/2 Cup walnuts, chopped

1/2 Cup margarine           1/2 Cup peanut butter

1/2 Cup milk                                   1 tsp. vanilla
